4.3.1 Safe to install
Originally developed for multiple federal agencies, the GammaPix technology transforms your phone into an ionizing radiation detector. Independently tested with calibrated sources, the effectiveness of GammaPix has been confirmed through rigorous trials. This groundbreaking technology was created in collaboration with prominent organizations such as the U.S. Department of Defense, the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security), and the Transportation Research Board (part of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences), endorsing its transition to public use.
Concerned about potential exposure to radioactive materials or terrorist activities? The GammaPix App acts as an early warning system, utilizing your phone's camera to detect radioactivity promptly. Although not intended as a replacement for specialized ionizing radiation detectors, it serves as a swift and accessible method for initial threat evaluations.
We trust that your experience with GammaPix will be both enlightening and beneficial.
Notes:
- Various scenarios may compromise measurement accuracy.
- Continuous monitoring may consume approximately 1-5% of your battery, yet it can notify you of radiation presence even when the App is not in use.
- An initial 5 to 10-minute setup is necessary before utilizing the application. Although it may be time-consuming, this step is vital for optimal performance. We suggest conducting this initialization in an environment presumed to have low radioactivity levels, ensuring your device is cool and not connected to a power source.
- To achieve optimal outcomes, ensure that no light enters the camera when running the GammaPix App. Placing your phone in a pocket or covering it with an object can be effective.
- A typical reading requires 3 to 5 minutes under non-threatening conditions. Higher radiation levels will be detected more rapidly.
- Experiment with Settings > Use long third stage for heightened sensitivity when taking readings.
- Compatibility may vary across phone models due to camera optimization in dim lighting conditions, resulting in excessively bright images on certain devices.
- Not all phone models have undergone calibration. Your readings will contribute to establishing calibration specific to your device model. The more readings you provide, the sooner we can establish accurate calibration data.
